Kerry McDonald is currently company director/chairman of Opus International Consultants Limited and i-lign Limited; a director of Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd; and Deputy Chairman of the NZ Institute of Economic Research. He is also President of the Institute of Directors, a Trustee of WWF New Zealand and a Life Member (and past Chairman) of the Australia-New Zealand Business Council.
Kerry initially trained as an economist and continues a rich and diverse career. He joined Comalco (now Rio Tinto) in the 1980s as a managing director. He served as a Director of the NZ Institute of Economic Research and has held chairmanships of Bank of New Zealand and Bank of New Zealand Investments Ltd, GRD Macraes Limited, and Oceanagold companies.
Companies that have benefited from his work as a director include National Australia Bank, Comalco New Zealand, DUX Industries, Carter Holt Harvey, Ports of Auckland, Gough Gough & Hamer Limited and many others.
He has also been a member of the APEC Business Advisory Council and Co-Chairman of its trade committee; Chairman of the Japan-New Zealand Business Council; a Trustee and Management Committee member of the Business Parliament Trust; Chairman of the State Sector Standards Board; a director of Antarctica New Zealand; a member of the e-Government Advisory Board and the Foreign Direct Investment Advisory Board; and has been involved in numerous other public roles in both Australia and New Zealand.
