Justin Partington, Telecom NZ

Breakfast Session Speaker, Wednesday 25 August 2010

Justin Partington is currently Head of Project Governance within Technology and Shared Services for Telecom New Zealand.  The Project Governance team is the integration of a Project Management practice of 190+ people and a Project Quality and Business Assurance function which supports their delivery.

Justin originally trained in the field of RF engineering and communications as a civilian with the Royal Air Force in the Uited Kingdom, working with all of the armed forces.  He then moved into the Telecommunications commercial arena working with major telcos delivering projects to implement equipment for Marconi across the UK and into Europe.

Upon arriving in New Zealand Justin was Research & Development Manager for an independent software vendor supplying Telecom NZ, British Telecom and other international operators.  He led the further development of their TUANZ ‘Innovator of the Year’ award winning software.

For the last five years Justin has been with Gen-i and Telecom involved in delivery of projects and developing the Project Management practice and capability, working across all of the Telecom operationally-separated management units, selecting, recruiting and supporting the development of project managers.  During this time he has interviewed literally hundreds of project managers at all levels and has developed an insight into what makes a successful recruit, what employers are looking for and learned some novel approaches from both sides of the interview table.
